Juvenile Salmon Salvage

In response to declining river levels caused by climate change and changes in freshwater environments, Redd Fish Restoration Society’s dedicated team patrols the drying rivers during late spring and summer. As the waters diminish, juvenile salmon and trout often find themselves confined to isolated pools, facing challenges such as oxygen depletion, rising temperatures, scarce food, and increased vulnerability to predators.

Equipped with nets and buckets, the team systematically traverses these riverbanks, diligently capturing the young fish. They meticulously document crucial data like measurements, population counts, and water quality parameters from these isolated pools.

Their mission culminates in a vital step: releasing these resilient baby fish back into flowing channels. By doing so, they provide them with the opportunity to navigate downstream, ensuring their chance to thrive and grow into healthy adult fish. This intervention supports their survival and contributes to the preservation of these valuable aquatic ecosystems.
